Ode to a cat

Last week I got the very sad news that my cat, Chivers, was hit by a car and had to be put down. Chivers was staying with my sister-in-law, as he was too old to travel with us this time. He did come with us to Azerbaijan, and then had 6 months quarantine, but this time we felt it was just too far.

The hardest part was telling the kids as they have always had him around, they were busy making bugs and I knew that my news would really upset them, but it felt a lot more natural to tell them straight away rather than wait until Richard gets back from the UK. We couldn’t, and wouldn’t want to, keep it from them as they would notice at Christmas. As an atheist I don’t have ‘he has gone to a better place’ to fall back on so they cried a lot and had big cuddles and then snuggled into my bed to watch a film with hot chocolate.

So here is my little tribute to the best fluffy ginger companion you could wish for. And as you can tell from these photos, his favourite pastime was sleeping and chasing ice-cubes across a hard floor, he would always steel them from your drink and pat them and pounce.

Gorgeous boy. Never nice to lose a good friend, feline or other, but good on you for focusing on the good memories.
Oh, and love the shot of the kitty porn too!
