Elementary Movie Night

Yesterday I helped out with the school’s elementary movie night, this had been organised by the student council, of which Katrine is her class representative.

I was on the refreshment stand, here it is, all ready for the hoards to arrive. There were just over a hundred students, from grades 1-5 (so that is 6-11 years old). All in their pyjamas, which they had been allowed to wear all day, including some of the teachers.

The popcorn machine was a real pest, the first batch was OK, but the second didn’t cook well at all, there was a very strong smell of burning and no popping. So we had to fully clean out the machine and start again. Which put so behind in making popcorn, which was obviously in high demand.

This is the queue that very quickly formed.

IMG_1303It took over an hour and a half to get everyone served and they were incredibly patient waiting in line.

Just before the movie started there was the raffle;

IMG_1307The lights going down made giving change for the popcorn tricky, especially when I was handed a pile of loose change. It wasn’t long though before the locust-like-children had cleared everything from the table; all the sweets, drinks and popcorn gone.

The film wasn’t as bad as I feared (though Katrine and Gregor are now asking to watch the others so I might get chipmunked out soon), and all the children enjoyed it, even the older ones. It was a brilliant night and I am very glad I went to help out.
