Old Mother Hubbard

Went to the cupboard,

To get her poor doggy a bone.

But when she got there,

The cupboard was bare,

And so the poor doggy had none.

We are returning to the UK on Wednesday and getting the keys to our new house on Thursday, and our stuff is arriving from storage Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. As we have no food  I’ve decided that the best plan is to do an online shop to be delivered on the Friday as well. Now, this is completely starting from scratch, so it will be a long list:

In the cupboard:

  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Vinegar
  • Chilli powder
  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Tomato puree
  • Lentils (red and brown)
  • Tins of beans – baked, kidney and canellini
  • Cornflour
  • Bread (I am so looking forward to nice bread!)
  • Breakfast cereal

Fruit and veg:

  • Apples
  • Potatoes
  • Salad veg
  • Peppers
  • Grapes
  • Bananas
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Onions
  • Garlic

For the Fridge:

  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • Cheese
  • Bacon
  • Yogurt
  • Ham/cold meat
  • Mince
  • Chicken

For the Freezer:

  • Ice-cream – a must given the heatwave in the UK!
  • Ice lollies – as above

Drinks:

  • Fruit juice – orange, grapefruit and grape
  • Pimns
  • Lemonade
  • Tea
  • Coffee

Snacks:

  • Crisps – salt and vinegar crisps, yeah!
  • Biscuits

Household goods & Toiletries:

  • 3 x hand wash
  • Laundry powder
  • Washing up liquid
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Shower gel
  • Multi purpose cleaner

For the cat:

  • Litter (she has to stay inside for at least a week)
  • Food

I’m sure there is quite a lot I have forgotten. Can you add any items to my list? What are your must have kitchen staples?

Sugar and toms, kitchen towel, toilet rolls? Otherwise, I think you’re off to a good start.

poss laundry soft rinse, and washing soda (waitrose and Tesco do it)or water softening tabs I think you are still in a ‘hard’ water area there. Also Cucumber if not included in salad and veg and poss drinking choc and marshmallows, the British weather can change quickly and it bay be a bit chilly by the time you are here. So soon now. Best of luck with everything.
