Back to Baku

We found out ten days ago that we aren’t going to be moving and staying in the UK for the next few years. Instead we are going to Baku, Azerbaijan.

We originally were told that we would be heading straight away, as soon as work permits could be sorted out, but over the last week we have sorted out the details a lot more and it is much better that we spend 5 months in the UK and then go in the new year. This works out a lot better for everyone as the kids will get a whole term at their new school, we get to spend time with our family and friends and we will have Christmas at home.

We lived in Baku 7 years ago, so it will be very interesting to see how much it has changed.

Hi Esther, Ive been lurking in your blog for sometime now (we are moving to Ulsan on 8th August and your posts provided a lot of invaluable information – thank you!). I think you and your family will find Baku totally different, prepare for a shock:-) .
We left three years ago and it’s totally unrecognisable now, we lived in Bayholdings when they just stared building The Flame Towers which are now dominating the skyline.

We lived in Boulevard Palace, I saw some photos from Eurovision and it look like it had change a lot. Quite exciting to be going back and getting to know it all again.

Good luck with your move to Ulsan, I hope everything goes well. We enjoyed Ulsan, it is a very friendly place. Do you know where you will be living yet?

We will be living in Exordium eventually but not until our shipment/see freight with the furniture arrives. Until then it is going to be a serviced apartment for 8-10 weeks and Im not looking forward to that.
Our daughter will be going to Hyundai Foreign School (after all that trouble getting into St Matthew’s school here in Surbiton, 🙂 oh well…)
Im quite excited and after all it’s only for 18-24 months.

The serviced apartments are pretty good – are you in ocean village? Are you on Facebook? The HFC clubhouse group is great for the school and compound news. How old is your daughter? I might be able to put you in touch with a few people with girls a similar age if you want?

That would be wonderful Esther. My daughter is 4 1/2 years old and we would love to meet new people, both adult and children!

Im on fb and will try to find and connect with the HFC clubhouse.
Andy (my husband) isnt sure which serviced apts we are in but Ive asked him to find out.

Wow, big change of plans! Small world. Chris is still working in Baku in between trips back to MOKEN.
