Roman shields

Gregor is studying in the Roman’s in school history and to make the subject more alive the teacher asked them to make shields . Fortunately, we had plenty of cardboard to hand!

Gregor chose a circular design, which was entertaining to cut out! Which was all golden and decorated in raised circles and squares. All of which he wanted me to cut out! I did a few but for the outer edge he wanted 60 small circles – that didn’t happen.

Katrine very much did not want to miss out on this so joined in with the shield making, she chose a rectangular wooden effect shield. Here they are getting on with their painting.

Then we had to attach the handles on the back – more cardboard needed!

Gregor had to take his into school, where they have to be prepared to “defend themselves against invasion” whilst Katrine’s has stayed home.

I hope so. They haven’t been invaded at school yet but good that they are prepared.

They had a lot of fun making them and Gregor loves history now, so the tactic worked.
